This week-end break takes in the wooded habitats of the Bükk Hills. We typically stay 3 nights (Thursday to Sunday) in an excellent location and have two full days in the nearby woodpecker-filled forests. Eight woodpecker species are resident and can be found in all seasons: Lesser, Middle Spotted, Great Spotted, Syrian, White-backed, Green, Grey-headed & Black. From April through summer the migratory Wryneck occurs, making nine species. On some trips we have seen all nine in one day! Of course, we do not neglect other birds and often see (depending upon the time of year) White & Black Storks, Ural & Eagle Owls, Eastern Imperial, Lesser Spotted & Short-toed Eagles, Goshawk, Gret Grey & Red-backed Shrike, Common & Short-toed Treecreepers, Wood, Barred, Marsh & River Warblers, Red-breasted & Collared Flycatchers, Woodlark, Golden Oriole, Hawfinch, Serin & Rock Bunting. In the evenings we dine on traditional wholesome Magyar cuisine and sample authentic wines from traditional local cellars.
